Dennis Looks For His Next Challenge

Dennis Hill is considering his footballing options following his unexpected axeing from the manager’s job at AFC Darwen.

A well known face around our league, Dennis has turned out for Great Harwood, Padiham, and Nelson as well as Darwen in the past, and had been at the Anchor Ground for five years as a player and manager.

He was heavily involved on and off the field in establishing AFC Darwen as a new club in the West Lancashire League after the previous Darwen FC folded last season, and was expecting to be at the helm if the club is successful in its’ application to join our league in the summer.  But now he is on the look out for his next footballing challenge.

“I’m still not sure what the problem was with AFC Darwen”, he said.  “I got a text from one of the directors at the club saying they wanted to talk to me, and then when I went down for a meeting I was told that I was being replaced.

“But I don’t intend dwelling on what happened, I just want to move on and stay involved in football.  Obviously I know plenty of people in the non-league football scene around Lancashire, and news has got around about me leaving AFC Darwen, especially after I was on BBC Radio Lancashire discussing the situation last week.

“I have had a number of calls and some offers of work already.  At the moment I’m keeping an open mind about what I’m going to do, but I’ll be talking to a number of people over the course of next week.

“I’m keen to stay involved at this level of football and hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back in some capacity, either in a playing or coaching role”.
