The recent enforced break for our clubs had led to a number of enquiries about league records in relation to the weather affecting fixtures.
As reported previously, this season is the first time we have ever lost four successive Saturday fixtures schedules because of the weather - and of course it would have been five had it not been for AFC Blackpool managing to host their Division One game against Irlam on the 16th January.
Some clubs have been out of action from mid December to the end of January, but League Statistician Paul Cowburn has pointed out that they have some way to go to beat the previous record for the longest lay off.
Paul says that back in the early days of the league in the mid 1980s, Whitworth Valley didn't play for three months due to the weather, and in that period when the weather was OK their opponents were in cup matches.
The fact was reported in the Newsletter at the time and was subsequently picked up by the BBC and reported on Football Focus.
