Mark Hayes, Commercial Manager at Ashton Town, looks ahead to his club's plum tie in the Liverpool Senior Cup on Wednesday evening.
We are now only days away from a fixture that at the start of the season could only have been dreamt about. Little Ashton Town host Premiership giants Liverpool in the next stage of the Liverpool Senior Cup having beaten Prescot Cables in the previous round, a team who at the time were 51 places above us.
Since manager John Carroll's appointment, the form book has literally been picked up and thrown away. Before the 'winter freeze' JC collected the November Manager of the Month award and also helped guide Town off the bottom of Division One for the first time in a long while.
With normal service now resumed now after the snow, the club is gearing up for one of the biggest games in its history. Within the last week or so the club has been featured in the local press, heard on local radio and even get a mention in the national Sunday Mirror as a 'tricky fixture' for Rafa !.
The game will be recorded by liverpool.tv, and if the cup shock is pulled off then the goals will feature on the following nights Granada Reports! Local Premiership side Wigan Athletic will also be sending down their mascot for the game to help drum up the support.
Tickets are just £5 adults and £2 U16's and OAP's, and are available everyday at two locations in Ashton-in-Makerfield - Tesco Express on Bolton Road and also at JLM News on Gerard Street.
One of the many supporters looking forward to the game is Miss Ashton Town, Gabrielle Taylor (pictured below), whose boyfriend is LFC defender Martin Kelly. Never in her wildest dreams did she think that when she joined Ashton Town she would cross paths with Martin's Premier League side. Don't you just love football!
The game this coming Wednesday evening kicks off at 7.45 pm.
