Dumbarton bring in experienced duo

Morton’s former assistant manager Allan McManus has returned to football as a player after the 35 year old agreed to sign on for Second Division Dumbarton next season.

The Sons are McManus’ tenth club since he started his career at Hearts before moving on to Livingston, Alloa, Aidrieonians, Ayr United, Airdrie United, St Johnstone and the Cappielow men.

McManus’ time as player and assistant manager to James Grady was ended last month when Greenock Chairman Douglas Rae decided not to make their role permanent and brought in Stirling Albion boss Allan Moore instead.

Dumbarton made another signing yesterday when goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay returned to the club from Second Division rivals Ayr United. The 28 year old began his career at Celtic and he also had spells at Newcastle United and Grimsby Town before joining the Sons first time round in 2001 for a six year spell.

Grindlay moved to Queen of the South, where he was a substitute in their 2008 Scottish Cup Final appearance against Rangers, before joining Ayr for two seasons.

Current manager Jim Weir said, “I have talked to Michael and Richard asked them to let me know what is happening as soon as possible.”
